Kate Middleton's title came when Prince Edward changed his mind 'after seeing a film'

When Prince William got engaged to Kate Middleton, questions were flying around about what titles Queen Elizabeth would give to them after their marriage.

We now know the couple were given the titles the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, however, Prince William‘s title was actually meant to go to Prince Edward at first. That was until he watched the movie Shakespeare in Love, according to a source.

When Kate Middleton became engaged to William, it was believed he would either be given the title the Duke of Cambridge or Suffolk.

However, Prince Edward, Queen Elizabeth II‘s youngest child was meant to be given that title. However, he reportedly watched the film Shakespeare in Love, and asked his mother if he could have the title of the Earl of Wessex, like the character from the flick, instead, The Telegraph reports.

Kate and William remained the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for more than a decade, until the Queen’s death in September 2022. King Charles then succeeded as Charles III, and Catherine and William became the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall.

The day after his grandmother’s death, William was made Prince of Wales. This meant Kate was now the Princess of Wales. His father held this title for a number of decades.

Princess’ health update as William ‘forced’ to pull out of appearance

Since having abdominal surgery at the beginning of the year, the Princess of Wales has not been seen publicly.

On February 27, the Prince of Wales was forced to pull out of a planned appearance, as the palace cited a “personal matter.”

Of course, this has people worrying about the mom of three’s condition, however, a royal source said his absence has nothing to do with his wife’s condition (as per The Mirror).

“The Princess of Wales continues to be doing well,” the source continued. Kensington Palace are not likely to provide updates on the Princess’ health but has said she is likely to return to public duties until Easter.
