Propane truck catches fire in Ellisville | Free News

A propane truck caught fire on busy Hill Street in front of Ellisville Auto Supply Carquest in Ellisville on Wednesday. But officials said the ordeal could have been much worse.
Ellisville firefighters were less than a mile away when the call came in at about 1 Wednesday afternoon.
“We got here to find the truck fully engulfed,” Ellisville Fire Chief Kyle Brooks said. “So, we immediately started pulling lines to put the truck out and kept the tank cooled down to prevent a possible eruption.”
Officials said they were unaware of what caused the fire but that no one was injured. Brooks said the incident could’ve been devastating had it not been handled in such a timely manner, and he urged citizens to keep their distance during any similar situations.
“I would just caution everybody that, if it’s a tanker truck like that and it’s on fire, do not approach it under any circumstances,” Brooks said. “Get as far away from it as safely as you can, because if it goes off, it’s going to be bad for everyone within a good ways around.”
